Afternoon C̶o̶f̶f̶e̶e̶ Tea Break

Sweden has a tradition of “fika” or an afternoon coffee, tea, or lemonade break. In college, I had the opportunity to travel on a cross-cultural trip to Sweden and Norway and enjoy this daily tradition in person! It was a break from the daily grind to sit and reflect, to rest, to embrace quiet, to snack, to gain quality time with friends or family. While on our three week adventure, my friends and I said how we hoped to continue this tradition at home.

Upon returning home we found it hard to get together and find time for fika. Ten years later as a mother to two young boys, I have found myself desiring to regain that quiet moment and start that as a tradition in my home. Right now, I do not get much of an overlap in nap time. However, if they do, I try to convince myself that the next chore on my list can wait for tea and a snack. Before the littlest wakes up or while he is content playing, I attempt to make a cup of tea (or lemonade as summer approaches) and gather a snack before sitting down to collect myself for the remainder of the day.

Could taking a moment to regain peace and sustenance also be your Cup of Tea?
