Why Make Time for a Cup of Tea?
I grew up in such a loving family as an only child. After faith, my mamma prioritized celebrations and traditions as a family. Birthdays, holidays, seasons, life events… you name it and there was a tradition to go with it! In the summer, one of my favorite traditions was Nana Camp. I would spend a few days to a week at my Nana’s house in Cumberland, Maryland. A tea party (and usually multiple) would always be a highlight of the week. Sometimes we would get to visit a tea room, but often it was just our own tea party at home. She would bake the scones and I would cut out the tea sandwiches. Cucumber sandwiches were our speciality. She would often have a dessert ready to pull out of the freezer leftover from Christmas or hosting bridge. We would sit with our cup of tea in the garden room and talk and laugh and share about our lives. Tea was such an integral part of sharing life with my Nana. It was a tradition I always looked forward to and was one of the last activities I shared with her before she unexpectedly passed away in 2023. As I continue my journey in becoming the best mommy I can be to my boys, I seek to bring the same emphasis on tradition and taking time for tea that my Mamma and Nana started.
My Family of 4
My husband and I met at Messiah College in Pennsylvania. Following graduation, I started teaching first grade in Winchester, Virginia and we dated long distance. We got engaged 16 months later. He moved to Winchester, Virginia after we got married and teaches middle school history. We enjoyed our time being a married couple and having summers off together. A few weeks before the pandemic in 2020 we were ecstatic to find out that we were expecting our first child! E was born in November. After finishing out the school year following my maternity leave, I was able to be a stay at home mom. E loves to talk and tell stories, dress up, play outside with dirt and sticks, and read books. He does enjoy a cup of tea with me often and loves to eat scones and biscotti when we have a tea party. T joined our family in October 2023. He is giggly, content watching his big brother, and already trying to move and reach. We love being a family of 4!
